Kamasutra 3D is a 2014 erotic film[1] directed by Rupesh Paul. The film is based on Vātsyāyana's Kama Sutra, an ancient Indian text in Sanskrit literature about human sexuality. Actress Sherlyn Chopra is the main lead in the film.
Production Development
Kamasutra 3D is produced under the house of Rupesh Paul Productions Limited and presented by G J Entertainments. The story has been written by the director. The film is co-produced and designed by Sohan Roy, and Dr George John is the executive producer.[5]
The film was announced at Cannes Film Festival 2012, by Rupesh Paul- the director of the film, after the premiere of his Hollywood movie, Saint Dracula 3D, at the festival.[6] The first look of Kamasutra 3D, was unveiled at NFDC's film bazaar on November 22, 2012 which was held on the sidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2012 in Goa.[7] The Kamasutra 3D — Photo Shoot Video with Sherlyn Chopra was revealed on 19 January 2013. The film is scheduled for release in May 2014.[8][9]
Kamasutra 3D was shown at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival[10] with the actress, Sherlyn Chopra and the director, Rupesh Paul. The producers revealed the name of the male lead King Malkhan, and distributed copies of the Kama Sutra to all the Cannes delegates [11] and also showed its second trailer.[12]
Kamasutra 3D was in the contention list of the 86th Academy Awards, with selection in the three categories – Best Motion Picture, Original Score and Original Song with 5 songs. It is the only movie from India contending in the music category lists. The results were announced on December 16, 2013 by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on its official website.[13][14][15][16]
The director of the film, Rupesh Paul stated that the English version of the film will be released on 24 May 2014. The team launched the official movie trailer in January 2014.[1
Filming
The movie will be released in both the Hindi and English languages. While the movie length will be 100 minutes for the international version, the Indian version will be 120 minutes.The stunt director is M S Micheal Raj and the stunt choreographer is Kecha Khamphakdee from Thailand.
The movie had three special screenings at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.[18]
Songs
Kamasutra 3D is the only Indian film with 5 songs to be selected in the Original Song contention category for the 86th Academy Awards. The songs include - Aygiri Nandini, Saawariya, I Felt, Of Soil and Har Har Mahadeva – composed by Chennai based music directors, Saachin & Sreejith while its lyrics were written by Rupesh Paul and Pratyush Prakash.[19][20][21][22]
Disputes between Paul and Chopra
The director Rupesh Paul decided to replace Sherlyn Chopra, after Chopra uploaded a video clip of the photo shoot of the film on her YouTube channel without seeking his permission. He decided to replace her with Eva Longoria or Mila Kunis.[23] Chopra later apologised to him in writing, stating that she would not say or write anything about the film without the consent of the producers.[24]
On 9 February 2014, Paul filed a lawsuit against Chopra for defamation, alleging that the actress had abused him on the social networking service Twitter.[25] On 22 February Paul filed another complaint against Chopra, seeking anticipatory bail.[26]
By March 2014, however, both parties dropped the lawsuits, publicly stating that they had decided to move on from the misunderstanding.[27]
